Alumni support goes a long way this time of year

Throughout this monumental year for Owen I’ve been asking for your help to push the school to even further heights. Many of you have responded in a variety of meaningful ways — whether through financial support, personal involvement, or often, both — and for that I sincerely thank you.

I also wanted to let you know that the things you do make a direct, tangible contribution to our continued success. Most recently, an alumnus responded to a request by the Career Management Center to pass along industry specific job prospects for students who are still seeking full-time employment or internships. Her tip led to first- and second-round interviews for no less than four recent graduates and helped open the door to a thriving West Coast media company that previously hadn’t been on Owen’s radar.

As remarkable as that story may seem, it is hardly unique. Every year, simple acts like these have led to wonderful opportunities, for both students and the school, in key sectors like financial services, health care, and marketing.

But now, we are making a strong push over the next 90 days to ensure that ALL graduates find a job that fits their career goals. The next 90 days also marks a critical window in determining the employment statistics used in many of the most widely read business school rankings. That number plays a key role in our overall score.

The Career Management Center has done an excellent job for students this year — and in fact, hiring is ahead of where it was at this time last year. Nevertheless, if you know of opportunities for MBA grads — or you know someone who might — please email Read McNamara or me and let us know about them. Or visit the “Employers” page on the Owen website to request a résumé book that includes information about student still seeking jobs.

I’m eager to see what new successes the upcoming new school year may bring. And I can’t wait for the completion of several building-improvement projects being undertaken at Owen this summer — but I’ll talk more about that soon.

Warm regards,
Jim Bradford
