As with most industries, technology has dramatically changed the way the military operates.\u00a0From transportation to communication, the Armed Services have adopted new technologies and adapted to new threats.\u00a0The rapidly evolving landscape of terrorism and cyber-attacks are bringing even more challenges.\u00a0To rise to those challenges, the military is looking outside of itself, to see the future and learn from disruptive firms like Amazon.<\/p>\n

With all this change, there is one thing that remains constant\u2014a focus on people and the concept of \u201cengaged leadership\u201d. Over his nearly 40-year career in the\u00a0U.S. Marine Corps<\/a>, General Ronald Bailey notes that his leadership style remains anchored in these four principles:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Get to know your people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Understand your people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Take care of your people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Create opportunities for your people.<\/strong><\/p>\n
