Events

Along with lunch & learns and other career development events, we organize various tours of local companies so our members can see how different companies manage their operations.

We also organize happy hours and various mixers for first-year and second-year club members to get to know each other better.

Off-campus events have included visits to:

Amazon Distribution Center: During a tour of this 1.2 million square foot facility, we got a first-hand view of the receiving, stowing, picking, and packing processes central to Amazon’s operational success.  We also had the opportunity to speak with Operations leaders at the facility about the career paths for MBAs at Amazon.

Nissan Production Plant: During our visit to the Smyrna Plant, we got to see how some of Nissan’s cars are made. The Smyrna Plant opened in June 1983 and has an annual production capacity of 550,000 vehicles. The plant produces the Nissan Altima, Nissan Maxima, Nissan Xterra, Nissan Frontier, Nissan Pathfinder, and Infiniti JX.

Yazoo Brewery: The operations club received a private tour that covered all aspects of operating a craft brewery. We learned all about the beer production process from sourcing raw ingredients, the brewing process itself, to bottling, packaging, and shipping. We also had the opportunity to sample several different Yazoo products.

Bridgestone/Firestone Production Plant: This past fall, the Operations Club and Japanese Business Club toured Bridgestone’s plant in LaVergne, TN. We received an in-depth presentation on the company as a whole, as well as operations-specific details of this particular facility. Following the presentation, the group broke out into teams and observed the production process in a live setting.

The theme is Game Night, and students will form teams in order to compete in games such as Balloon Tower, Charades, Cornhole, Trivia, Pictionary, and Ring Toss.
