{"id":6620,"date":"2014-06-16T12:10:30","date_gmt":"2014-06-16T17:10:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/magazines\/vanderbilt-business\/?p=6620"},"modified":"2015-07-21T18:48:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-21T18:48:00","slug":"couldnt-happen-to-a-nicer-guy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.owen.vanderbilt.edu\/vanderbiltbusiness\/couldnt-happen-to-a-nicer-guy\/","title":{"rendered":"Couldn&#8217;t Happen to a Nicer Guy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A scholarship established to honor former Career Management Center Director <strong>Peter Veruki<\/strong> now bears his name.<\/p>\n<p>A group that includes <strong>Georgiana<\/strong> and <strong>Eric Noll<\/strong>, MBA\u201990; <strong>Paul Jacobson<\/strong>, MBA\u201997; <strong>Kevin Kimery<\/strong>, MBA\u201993; <strong>Heiki Miki<\/strong>, MBA\u201996; <strong>Dave Willis<\/strong>, MBA\u201997; <strong>David DiFranco<\/strong>, MBA\u201999; and Veruki\u2019s wife,<strong> Judy Spinella<\/strong>, EMBA\u201993, established the scholarship in 2012.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6616 alignleft\" title=\"veruki_150x200\" src=\"https:\/\/magazine.owen.vanderbilt.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/legacy\/i\/veruki_150x200.jpg\" alt=\"Peter_Veruki\" width=\"150\" height=\"200\" \/>Under funding rules, scholarships can\u2019t be named after a current staff or faculty member, so the need-based scholarship was known as the Wall Street Scholarship until Veruki\u2019s retirement as director of corporate relations last year.<\/p>\n<p>Veruki has been credited with expanding Owen\u2019s recognition nationwide and with impacting the lives and careers of students for nearly two decades.Veruki hopes that students who receive the Peter E. Veruki Scholarship will be those \u201cwho could go to Wharton or Harvard to study finance, but instead chooses Owen because our finance faculty is second to none,\u201d he says. \u201cWe\u2019re looking for a person who appreciates the culture we have here\u2014the camaraderie and teamwork.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To contribute to the scholarship, contact the Owen Development and Alumni Relations office at (615) 322-0815.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A scholarship established to honor former Career Management Center Director Peter Veruki now bears his name.
