Additional Academy Workshops
First-year MBA students need to complete at least one writing workshop from the list below. The one-hour sessions are offered in Mod 2.
Visual Writing: CEO and Founder of Ethos3 Scott Schwertly will lead this workshop. Ethos3 creates presentations (Keynote, Prezi, and PowerPoint) for Google, PepsiCo, NBC Universal, and Guy Kawasaki. They have won 1st and 2nd place awards in the SlideShare World’s Best Presentation Contest. Come and learn the best of visual presentations.
Crisis Communication: It is not if a crisis, but when a crisis will happen at your company. Whether the situation involves a product recall, a natural disaster, or a case of fraud, as a leader during a crisis situation, you will be called upon to respond. How you handle the crisis in your written and spoken communication likely will impact your reputation for the rest of your career. Bliss Communications CEO Mimi Bliss will lead the session.
Emotional Intelligence: Learn how to inspire loyalty, motivate high performance, and build cohesive teams. You’ll strengthen your EI, including self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. Professor Shayna Humphrey will present the session.
Writing in Teams: In business, you often need to collaborate and write together in teams. Beth O’Sullivan, Senior Lecturer in Management at Rice University, will share best practices that really make this work so the writing sounds like one voice, and one person is not doing all the work. This interactive workshop will be presented virtually.
Crystal Clear Writing: How do you take large amounts of information and still convey the message without omitting important details? Jana Seijts, Management Communication Lecturer at Western University in Canada, will present virtually about the Minto Pyramid Primciple, created by McKinsey consultant Barbara Minto. This is a framework to develop concise and persuasive business documents for clients, colleagues, and boards.
